For March's monthly member spotlight, we are featuring Ocelot member Emmy Bright. Members are artists and printmakers who pay hourly fees that allow them to use our full range of equipment.
Emmy makes fine art prints on paper and cardboard that a friend recently described as 'Splotches of Logic'.
EMMY PRINTS MOSTLY: "I use Ocelot to prep all of my screens and then take them back to my studio in Southwest to print in my studio. A lot of my work riffs on cardboard, paper, image and text, so it is great to use the shop as needed but then to be able to really spread out in the studio to make the finished prints. I've also begun working as a Master Printer for other fine artists who do installation, performance and social practice - to help bring their work into printed matter. It has been awesome to collaborate with other folks to make editions of their work with them."
EMMY PRINTS # HRS/MONTH: "I probably spend about 10 hours a month coating and burning my screens."
EMMY'S FAVORITE THING ABOUT OCELOT PRINT SHOP: "I have worked in lots of community print shops, and they are one of my favorite places. Ocelot lets me share equipment and space which we otherwise couldn't afford to use. I also love that whenever I come in, there are other folks working, and I get to see their process. Print folks are typically super enthusiastic about sharing tips, so its a great way to learn. Another one of my favorite things is the print shop signage. My favorite sign at Ocelot is the one asking if power-washer makes your heart feel funny. The power washer definitely makes my heart feel funny!"
