For November's monthly member spotlight, we are featuring Ocelot member Shayla Johnson/Scarlet Crane Creations. Members are artists and printmakers who pay hourly fees that allow them to use our full range of equipment.
Scarlet Crane Creations creates home goods and accessories such as tea towels, throw pillows and wristlets using their own screen printed fabrics, along with limited edition poster prints.
Shayla has partnered with William+Bonnie, a cut and sew operation in Detroit, to create her Detroit Collection and will be launching an Indiegogo campaign on November 8. A primary goal of this collection is to celebrate and support Detroit's built environment and communities, so a percentage of proceeds will go to local organizations doing the work of architectural and neighborhood preservation. Check out DetroitCollection.com for more info and updates, including a promo video that will launch next week.
SHAYLA PRINTS MOSTLY: "So far I have screen printed the fabric for my throw pillows and wristlets, and all of my screen prep is done at Ocelot. I also take advantage of their heat press."
SHAYLA PRINTS # HRS/MONTH: "I am at Ocelot 2 to 4 hours a month."
SHAYLA'S FAVORITE THING ABOUT OCELOT PRINT SHOP: "Being a part of the Ocelot community has allowed me to meet some fabulous creatives and we all help each other. I love the camaraderie and the staff's willingness to help and share tips and techniques."
